Getting on the water can sometimes seem to be a daunting prospect. Which boat to choose, where to keep it, how to use and maintain it, what kit do you want, what training do you need? The list goes on! However, answers to those questions and many more can be achieved at WestWays.
For years we have supplied boats to those completely new to the concept of boating. We have always ensured that we offer the right advice, and have always received great feedback on our level of customer service. Many of these customers have come back to WestWays time and time again for a new boat, a part or even just some good advice.
Our advice is FREE but we have developed a reduced cost 'Get Afloat' package which includes:
NB. The price for this package will depend on the Yacht or Motorboat purchased.
We can help you with the following topics:
Which boat to choose?
We have a number of Yachts and Motorboats that are well suited to first time boaters. We will match your requirements, budget and experience to the model that is right for you.
Where to keep it?
We can explain the different methods of keeping a boat, from trailer, to river mooring, marina to dry stacking and we will do our best to secure you a berth in you chosen location. WestWays have always promoted the South West as a superb boating area and we also have a number of berths in marinas through Devon and Cornwall.
Do I need formal training?
You do not currently need any formal qualifications but should abide by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA), 'Safety of Life at Sea' (SOLAS) regulations dependant on the size of vessel. Most will be covered under SOLAS V. We will advise on this but also on training that may be suitable for you. Most people now undertake some form of formal training before heading out to sea, mainly for their safety and peace of mind and that of their crew, but also because many insurance companies are now insisting on a basic level of documented knowledge and it may help with your premium.
How should I purchase a boat? How do I insure it?
Many people pay cash for their boat, although most require some form of funding. Whilst we are not yet regulated by the FSA so cannot offer formal advice, we can put you in touch with finance companies who offer very competitive marine mortgages and loans. We can also put you in touch with some insurance companies for a quotation.
What equipment do I need to carry?
We will let you know what you must carry and what you should carry. We will put together a reduced cost chandlery package suitable for the boat you are purchasing, including safety and lifesaving equipment.
What maintainence does a boat need?
Like any mechanical product a boat needs to be regularly maintained. We will advise of the schedule of works required with approximates costs and let you have details of servicing agents in your area. We undertake a lot of seasonal routine maintainence for a number of local customers so can be of help with this too.
